JAZZ AND MORE ON SUNDAYS

The first three Sundays of each month we host the best of local jazz, the second Sunday being an Open Jazz Session run by John Walter or Tom Unwin.  On fourth Sundays we showcase talents in various genres, local or touring, on our Not Quite Jazz (NQJ) nights.  See listings below or check out our monthly flyer page.

2nd PHILIP CLOUTS TRIO
Pianist Philip Clouts’ career has included playing at Ronnie Scott’s and the Glastonbury Festival. His music has a strong flavour of Latin American and African jazz, and New Orleans funk. With Ron Phelan on bass and Ed Toll at the drums. “It has a very infectious feel-good quality about it” Jazz FM

16th  LOUISE PARKER TRIO
Plymouth based Louise grew up in a house filled with music, from the folk, calypso and opera enjoyed by her Jamaican born mother to the trad, swing and be-bop from her jazz-obsessed father, so she was born to create the sort of soulful sound that has earned her a great reputation in the jazz world.

23rd  NQJ – JULIAN PIPER – Bluesman
Julian lives and breathes the blues.  Over the years he has toured and played alongside many of the blues greats (check it out here: http://www.julianpiper.com/biography.html) and has played on two albums that have received the prestigious W.C. Handy Award in Memphis.  He’s hot-footing it over from Teignmouth Folk Festival to join us for this gig.

7th  NEIL MAYA’S JAZZ FUNK EMPORIUM
Neil on saxes, Tom Ball on keys, Jesse Molins on guitar, Tom Drewett on Bass and Gary Evans on drums.  This all-star band comprises some of Devon’s finest jazz and jazz funk musicians, and promises some of the world’s greatest jazz funk including music by The Crusaders, JTQ, Average White Band, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and many more. A night not to be missed!
